Daryl Liggins lives in San Ramon, California with his wife Jamie, and 2 daughters Brianna (16), and Jaiden (14). He retired in 2023 after serving 31 years in the fire service. Starting his career in 1992 in the Redwood City, CA Fire Department, he worked as a Firefighter/Engineer. In 1999 he began his career as a firefighter in the Oakland, CA Fire Department. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2006, Captain in 2015, and Captain of Training in 2021. In the field, he was assigned to Engine 13, Engine 18, and Truck 6 which are among the city’s most active fire companies. Just from probation in 2001 he was assigned to form a hose and nozzle committee and appointed Chair. Daryl held that position until retirement. The committee implemented new equipment and tactical changes, through R&D, field testing, budgeting, training, policy writing, and manufacturer collaboration. He has been the lead instructor at the department’s academies for initial attack handline
operation. Outside of the fire department he sits on the board of directors for Fire Nuggets, a non-profit group run by firefighters to bring affordable training across the US. Deryl has also served as an adjunct HOT instructor for FDIC, Firehouse World, Jr. College courses, and many other conferences focused on engine company operations.
